Remember Black Friday before the internet? Waiting in lines to get those special after Thanksgiving deals? Even if you aren’t old enough to remember or aren’t a shopper, the concept of waiting in line is universal. It seems like we spend most of our lives waiting on something. We wait to get out of school, then we wait to find a Mr./Mrs. “Right”; we wait to start a family, then we wait for the kids to get a little older; we wait to retire and we wait to die… Life is one interminable waiting room! The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is called Advent. It is a season in which we remember a time when the world was waiting for the arrival of its Savior. A time to anticipate the celebration of the birth of Jesus and to prepare our hearts and homes to be His dwelling place. Join us as we explore God’s purpose behind waiting and how we can make the most out of it this Advent.

Passage:

Isaiah 40:27-31

Principle:

Life’s waiting room is God’s workshop

Practices:

  1. Worship Fully – Make worship with your family a priority in December
  2. Spend Less – Instead of expensive gifts, give people your time. (Advent calendars)
  3. Give more – Give Jesus your most expensive gift this season
  4. Love All – Find ways to bless people who won’t or can’t necessarily bless you in return
