The Other Foot
4/24/2016
Many people have learned by experience that it is more blessed to give than to receive. But what happens when the shoe is on the other foot and the giver is the one who stands in need? For some people, it is far more difficult to receive help than it is to give it. However, the basic teachings of Jesus demonstrate that without a willingness to receive, we have nothing to give and are hopelessly lost. In part four of Poured Out, we discover Peter’s response to Jesus’ attempt to serve him and discover that worship begins with humility.
Passage:
Principles:
Those who are unwilling to be served by Jesus are not capable of serving in Jesus’ name.
Talk is cheap, love is a verb.
To worship God fully requires that we humble ourselves to the needs of others.
Practices:
Identify someone you can intentionally serve who would be neglected otherwise.
Identify a task that you believe is “beneath your dignity” and do it as an antidote to your pride.
