God Speaks

10/23/2022

Have you ever read the Bible and asked yourself why God spoke in such obvious ways then, but not today? Could it be that God is still speaking in obvious ways, but that we simply aren’t listening? Join us for part four of Experiencing God where we will learn that God speaks by the Holy Spirit through the Bible, prayer, circumstances, and the church to reveal Himself, His purposes, and His ways.

Small Group Questions

Use this outline for personal reflection, as a couple or family devotion, or with a small group.

Hangout

Has there ever been a time when you felt like God spoke to you? What did He say and how do you know it was Him?

This week we are considering Reality 4: God speaks by the Holy Spirit through the Bible, prayer, circumstances, and the church to reveal Himself, His purposes, and His ways.

Large Group Questions

Read Exodus 3:1-22

  • What circumstances first drew Moses’ attention to what God wanted to say to him (vs. 2-4)?
  • What did God specifically reveal about Himself (vs. 5-6, 14)?
  • What did God specifically reveal about His purposes (vs. 7-10)?
  • What did God specifically reveal about his ways for accomplishing those purposes (vs. 12, 15-22)?
  • What evidence do you see in this passage that God spoke clearly and specifically to Moses, not just in vague feelings or interests?

Small Group Questions (3-5 people)

Review this week’s daily readings. If you did not do this week’s reading, feel free to join the conversation anyway! If you’d like a copy of The Seven Realities of Experiencing God, please ask your group leader.

  • How have you trusted in methods rather than in a Person, expecting God to speak only in certain ways?
  • What time do you regularly set aside to listen to God through His Word?
  • When have you been aware of God challenging you through prayer?
  • When has God radically changed the direction of your life through a seemingly ordinary circumstance?
  • When has God seemed silent? What did God reveal during that time of silence?

Making it personal

  • How have you experienced God this week?
  • What has God revealed to you about Himself, His purposes, and His ways?
  • Talk about it, invite accountability, and pray together.

Daily Reading

As you read these passages, ask the Holy Spirit to show you how God speaks to His people.

Think Deeper

  3. How much time do you spend listening to God?
