As Good As It Gets

9/5/2021

An Idol is made when we worship one of God’s good gifts rather than the One who gave us the gift. Our culture has made an idol of romance and marriage. This has not only damaged the institution of marriage but our understanding of God’s plan and purpose for marriage. Join us for the final message in Ever After where we learn that marriage is a broken and temporary signpost pointing us to something far more permanent and perfect.

Marriage Myth #4

The myth of as good as it gets

Marriage is a temporary and broken signpost pointing toward a permanent and perfect union with God through Jesus Christ.

  • Marriage is a temporary signpost.
  • Marriage is a broken signpost.
  • The purpose of marriage is to point us toward a permanent and perfect union with God through Jesus Christ.

Scripture

He said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.” The disciples said to him, “If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry.” – Matthew 19:8-10 (ESV)

But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. - Matthew 22:29-30 (ESV)
