Religious Skubala
March 8, 2020
The people of God are routinely warned against profanity. From Proverbs in the Old Testament, to the words of Jesus in the Gospels, and throughout the New Testament, believers are constantly warned about the dangers of an untamed tongue. So what could possibly have driven a man who wrote the majority of the books in our New Testament to cuss? Join us for part 6 of Losing My Religion where we look at one of the most provocative words recorded in Scripture and learn what could possibly have driven the Apostle Paul to the point of losing his religion!
Quoting Scripture
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
Ephesians 4:29
Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish [Skubala], in order that I may gain Christ.
Philippians 3:8
Questions to Consider
- Have you allowed religion to become a substitute for a passionate pursuit of Jesus?
- Are you still running the race, or have you taken a seat in the stands?
- Have you reached the place where everything you value is skubala compared to your love of Jesus?
