Fundamentals
May 2, 2021
It has been said that everything we really need to know in life was taught in kindergarten. The basic fundamentals of being human are so simple a child can understand them, yet so profound that we spend our entire lives trying to live them out. Jesus’ directions for how to be human are shockingly simple, abundantly clear, incredibly memorable and profoundly practical. But even after more than 2000 years, Jesus’ directions are still rarely applied. G.K. Chesterson put it best, “The Christian faith has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult and left untried.” Join us for the final part of How to Be Human where we will explore Jesus’ four fundamental rules for being human.
Passage (read it):
Principles (know them):
You are who you follow (Luke 6:39-40)
You judge in others what you fear in yourself (Luke 6:41-42)
You harvest what you plant (Luke 6:43-45)
Your foundation determines your durability (Luke 6:46-49)
Practices (do them):
Take time to reflect on your answers to the following questions:
- Who or what are you following?
- What do you tend to persistently judge in others?
- Is your life producing bad fruit?
- How is your foundation?
Daily Readings:
The Apostle Paul mentored and trained many young believers. In addition to offering basic instructions in the best way to be human, he also offered practical suggestions for ways to help other people follow the ways of Jesus. This week you will read Paul’s instructions to Timothy. As you read take note of those things that apply to everyone and the things that should especially be true of leaders.
